America realizes it's in big trouble! Iran's missile capabilities have suddenly improved! On July 19, according to a report by the U.S. Wall Street Journal, American officials believe Iran has significantly enhanced its missile capabilities. Iran is now using missiles that fly at extremely high speeds and can maneuver during their terminal phase, making it much more difficult for the U.S. missile defense system to intercept them.

Officials are increasingly concerned about the improved accuracy of Iran’s strike operations, with some speculating that Tehran may be receiving targeting assistance from certain countries, although no public evidence has confirmed this claim. Clearly, we do not know exactly why Iran’s missile performance has suddenly improved. However, it is a fact that the U.S. missile interception rate has declined. For example, early on July 17, Iran launched a missile assault on the U.S. Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain. The Patriot air defense system fired three PAC-3 interceptors in a terminal-phase interception attempt, all of which failed.

Similarly, at Jordan’s King Faisal Air Base, Iran launched four hypersonic warheads capable of maneuvering, prompting the U.S. to fire eight Patriot interceptors in one go—none of which successfully hit the incoming warheads. Of even greater concern to the U.S. is not just the inability to intercept, but also the visibly improved precision of Iranian missile strikes. In the past, Iranian missiles could only cover large areas of a base, with errors often exceeding hundreds of meters; now, the circular error probability has been reduced to the ten-meter level.

Iran can now precisely target critical infrastructure such as hangars, fuel terminals, and communication hubs, enabling pinpoint attacks. As a result, Iran no longer needs to launch dozens or even hundreds of missiles to blanket-bomb a target—just a few penetrating missiles are sufficient to severely damage a key U.S. military base. Of course, globally, very few nations possess both terminal maneuverability and high-precision strike capabilities. Perhaps Iran has achieved this technological leap on its own within a short time frame—but whether the U.S. believes it remains another matter entirely.
