Canada begins to confiscate Russian An-124 "Ruslan" transport aircraft and transfer it to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Responsible Person for European Integration Olga Stefanishyna stated that in August 2023, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (VAKS) approved the lawsuit request of the Ministry of Justice to impose sanctions on the assets of "Volga-Dnepr" Airlines, confiscate them as national revenue. The company is the owner of the An-124 "Ruslan" aircraft.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice transferred the relevant ruling to the Canadian side. Currently, the Attorney General of Canada has applied to the Ontario Superior Court requesting the formal confiscation of the aircraft and its transfer to Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Canada is the first Western country to legislate that sanctioned Russian assets can be used to support Ukraine.
