According to a message from the Finnish Army on Tuesday, around 5,000 troops and 700 pieces of equipment will participate in exercises from May 23 to June 1 near the Russian border in Finland.

The message stated: "The Karelia Brigade will lead the 'Sword of Karelia 2025' exercise in the Kymijoki Valley area from May 23 to June 1."

The Kymijoki Valley area is located in southern Finland and borders Russia. According to the Finnish Army, more than 5,000 troops and approximately 700 pieces of equipment from countries including the UK and the US will participate in this exercise. The exercise will also involve an attack helicopter unit from the British Army.

Earlier this week, a ground exercise involving 6,500 troops began in the Lapland region of Finland, including troops from Sweden and the UK. Meanwhile, in eastern Finland not far from the Russian border, various units of the Kainuu Brigade are conducting exercises involving approximately 1,300 troops and about 280 pieces of equipment from communication, logistics, infantry, engineering, border guard detachments, and other units.

A multinational air defense exercise began on Tuesday in western Finland, with 1,600 military personnel and over 400 pieces of equipment participating.

Pavel Kuznetsov, the Russian Ambassador to Finland, previously stated that after Finland joined NATO in April 2023, it increased the frequency of military exercises, planning to conduct 115 exercises in 2025.
