French President Macron said that the EU may impose another round of sanctions on Russia with the US in the coming days, and these sanctions may involve financial services as well as oil and gas.

"The situation in Ukraine concerns our security. We hope to achieve a 30-day ceasefire on land, at sea and in the air." Macron added.

Meanwhile, Reuters cited European diplomats as reporting that if the tough talk from EU leaders is not followed by concrete actions, it may weaken external trust in the EU.

"On one hand, keeping sanctions as a tool for pressure while making ultimatums you cannot possibly fulfill is not serious. There is no enthusiasm for such sanctions at the EU level. It's even difficult to finalize a basic sanctions proposal." A diplomat told Reuters.

A senior European official added: "The danger lies in the fact that Russia might see all this as bluffing."

It is worth noting that Trump has yet to indicate whether he would support new sanctions if Moscow refuses the 30-day ceasefire agreement.
