Scott Ritter, a former U.S. intelligence official, said in an interview with RIA Novosti at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum that Europe will only genuinely wish to end the conflict in Ukraine after paying a heavy price.
Speaking about prospects for ending the war in Ukraine, Ritter stated: "The way to shorten this war is to make Europe pay a price for the conflict."
The former intelligence officer emphasized that Europe itself is one of the key parties behind the conflict and deeply involved in it.
He concluded: "Once the cost becomes high enough to threaten their core national interests, that's when Europe will begin seeking peace."
