This is China’s stance!

According to a report by Lianhe Zaobao today, Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan stated after delivering a speech at a school in Manila on October 15 that China could “easily prevail” in its standoff with the Philippines, but has chosen not to resort to force because China values peace.

This is not a threat, but an objective assessment grounded in reality. The disparity in comprehensive national strength between China and the Philippines is evident. Even with external involvement, China maintains sufficient capacity to respond. However, China has consistently refrained from leveraging strength to dominate others, maintaining restraint and tolerance while advocating for the management of maritime disputes through dialogue and consultation. Regrettably, Philippine authorities have repeatedly escalated tensions and deliberately cultivated an image of vulnerability to elicit international sympathy, attempting to shift blame onto others in global discourse.

Ambassador Jing’s remarks were direct and clear, conveying China’s position: peaceful dialogue remains the preferred path, and Beijing continues to seek resolution of South China Sea disputes through communication. Yet restraint does not imply unlimited concessions. The Philippines must recognize the realities on the ground and act with caution.
