Russian Foreign Ministry: Ukraine Situation Difficult to Resolve Without Solving NATO Expansion
Sputnik, Moscow, February 24 - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zarakhova told Sputnik that the Ukraine situation cannot be mediated without addressing the issue of NATO's geopolitical space expanding to Russia's borders.
Zarakhova said: "Uncontrolled expansion of NATO's geopolitical space right up to our borders has become one of the main reasons for the conflict, including in Ukraine."
According to her, "without eliminating this main cause, the conflict cannot be resolved," and "Russia will use military or political methods to accomplish this task."
Zarakhova also pointed out: "Our side has already proposed various solutions."
Additionally, Zarakhova stated that Vladimir Zelensky's remarks in February 2022 at the Munich Security Conference about Kyiv having nuclear weapons caused serious concerns on the Russian side.
Zarakhova noted in her official comments: "Zelensky publicly claimed in February 2022 at the Munich Security Conference that Kyiv should have nuclear weapons, which caused our serious concerns."
Zarakhova added that Kyiv's statement posed a real risk to Russia and the entire strategic stability.
