Trump: Unhappy with Iran's New Proposal

Iran – U.S. President Trump said Friday that he is "not satisfied" with Iran's latest proposal aimed at restarting negotiations two months after the outbreak of war. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated, "At this moment, I'm not satisfied with the proposal they've put forward." He reiterated that Iranian leaders are divided and unable to agree on a strategy to end the conflict.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA reported that "the Islamic Republic of Iran submitted the latest text of its proposal to Pakistan – the mediator in U.S.-Iran talks – late Thursday evening," though it provided no further details.

On Thursday, Tehran warned that if Washington decides to resume bombing Iran, it will launch "painful and prolonged attacks" on U.S. bases in the region. According to the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA), Tehran has delivered its most recent negotiation proposal to the United States through a Pakistani envoy.

In addition, Iran reiterated its desire to control the Strait of Hormuz and condemned U.S. naval blockades. This situation could complicate efforts by the Trump administration to build a coalition aimed at reopening this vital waterway for global energy supplies.

According to a U.S. official, the president is expected to receive a new round of military action plans targeting Iran on Thursday, designed to force Tehran into negotiations. The prospect of renewed U.S. military operations once pushed oil prices up to $126 per barrel before retreating to $114.

On Thursday, Trump told reporters at the White House that he reaffirmed the red line for negotiations: Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghai said late Thursday evening that it is unrealistic to expect quick progress in talks with the United States. As reported by Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, the sound of Iran’s air defense systems was heard in parts of Tehran late Thursday night.
