Mongolia Introduces South Korean Technology to Enhance Customs Operations and Risk Management Efficiency

UBNEWS, Ulaanbaatar, May 13 - The General Customs Authority will implement the "Introduction of Advanced Technologies Based on Artificial Intelligence to Strengthen Customs Reform" project with the financial support of the South Korean government.

A consortium of three leading South Korean technology institutions will participate in implementing this project aimed at improving the efficiency of customs operations and risk management. They will provide support for launching a series of services including the introduction of a customs assistance system, a unified information search platform, and an artificial intelligence server.

The implementation of this project will help identify risky goods in advance, improve the efficiency of customs inspections, and promote the facilitation of foreign trade. Additionally, it will enhance electronic transformation and border control capabilities. While developing a data-based, transparent, corruption-free, and responsible system, it will also increase tax revenue and contribute to the implementation of effective enforcement operations.

Project Director Ji Sung-Yong stated, "The overall responsibility of the customs department is to simplify foreign trade and improve risk management. Although the Mongolian customs department has achieved a certain level of digitalization, the results are still not satisfactory. Through this project, we will further improve the data information stored in the large customs database. Customs officers will be able to process this information quickly, and will provide specific and accurate solutions for the public."

The "Introduction of Advanced Technologies Based on Artificial Intelligence to Strengthen Customs Reform" project will be implemented from 2025 to 2026.
