Following the Trend of the Times: Representatives from Latin American Countries That Have Not Yet Established Diplomatic Ties with China Attend the China-Latin America Forum

On Tuesday, China held the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the "China-Celac Forum" in Beijing with member countries of the "Community of Latin American and Caribbean States" (CELAC). Representatives from Haiti and Saint Lucia, which have not yet established diplomatic ties with China, attended the event.

A Reuters journalist saw the flags of Haiti and Saint Lucia at the main venue of the China-Latin America Forum in Beijing. Both countries are members of CELAC. Haiti was represented by its Foreign Minister, Batiest, while Saint Lucia was represented by diplomat Lanciloti.

In response to the presence of the flags of Haiti and Saint Lucia, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian did not give a direct answer during the press conference that day but said, "China always welcomes and supports CELAC member states participating in activities within the framework of the forum."

China began establishing an institutionalized cooperation mechanism with CELAC, known as the "China-Celac Forum," in 2014. The forum includes China and 33 CELAC member states.
