Shortly after the $14 million renovation of the Reflecting Pool at Washington's Lincoln Memorial was completed last week, green algae appeared in the pool water. Previously, Trump had praised the renovated pool's water quality as "beautiful and clear," while criticizing the water during the previous administration as "terrible, disgusting, and full of trash." However, two on-site observations this week revealed that algae have covered multiple areas of the pool bottom and are floating on the surface, including near both ends of the pool adjacent to the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. A patch of algae near the World War II Memorial noticeably expanded from Wednesday, after rain, through Thursday's hot and humid weather. The Department of the Interior stated that these algae are a normal startup phenomenon resulting from the eight-week shutdown of water supply lines during construction, and cleanup efforts are underway. Nanobubble devices will be used to maintain water quality and prevent further algal regrowth.
