Korean Media: China Launches 6G Test Network Operations, Performance 10 Times That of 5G!
On April 23, South Korean media outlet Newspim published an article stating that to accelerate the commercialization of 6G, China has initiated its first 6G test network.
Recently, the "Pre-6G Test Network" located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, has officially gone into operation.
This test network is built upon existing 5G infrastructure and integrates multiple core technologies of 6G. It features high bandwidth, long-distance coverage, ultra-low latency, and artificial intelligence integration, with overall performance reaching up to 10 times that of 5G.
Specifically, this test network is applied across various fields such as low-altitude drone operations, industrial control, embedded AI, and holographic communications. As a real-world application-level 6G trial beyond laboratory testing, it is seen as a strategic move by China to gain an early advantage in the global race toward 6G commercialization.
The test network is primarily deployed in areas near Nanjing’s "Wireless Valley." The Zijin Mountain Laboratory in Nanjing led the construction of this test network. The laboratory explained: “6G technology is rapidly evolving from the 'feasible' stage to the 'mass application' stage. The operation of this test network will lay the foundation for future large-scale commercialization.”
Meanwhile, the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSMA) forecasts that by 2040, 6G connections will exceed 5 billion—accounting for half of all global mobile connections.
