Trump: NATO members should shoot down Russian aircraft that violate their airspace
Europe - US President Trump said on Tuesday that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft that violate their airspace. This comes less than two weeks after Russian drones or fighter jets have entered NATO airspace three times.
During the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the US President answered the question: "Do you think NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft that enter their airspace?" He replied, "Yes, I think they should shoot them down."
Danish authorities discovered multiple drones at Copenhagen Kastrup Airport. The Danish government called this incident an "attack." Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen said it was one of the most serious attacks on critical infrastructure in Denmark. She added, "This reflects the era we are in and the situations we must be prepared to deal with."
Frederiksen said, "We certainly do not rule out any possibility of the perpetrator behind the scenes." However, this incident must be viewed in conjunction with recent other drone attacks, airspace violations, and hacking incidents targeting European airports.
In mid-September, drones suddenly appeared over Poland. A few days later, Estonia found fighter jets in its airspace. NATO believes all of this is attributed to Russia.
