Experts: China Aims to Prevent Rare Earth Metals from Being Used for Military Purposes
The Hong Kong South China Morning Post quoted experts as reporting that China's export controls on rare earth metals aim to prevent their use for "illicit military purposes."
On Thursday, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated that China's export control measures comply with international practices and are intended to better maintain world peace and regional stability.
John Gu, an economics teacher at the China Institute of International Business Management, told the South China Morning Post: "China's position on rare earths is clear: China hopes to prevent rare earths from being used for illicit military purposes."
This expert believes that Washington describes the issue as "China opposing peace," while for Beijing, it is "China opposing war."
Previously, He Yongqian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, stated that China remains willing to engage in equal negotiations based on mutual respect.
