Russian Tourism Association: China Remains Top Destination for Russian Tourists

Continuation of Visa-Free Policy Fuels Surge in Travel to China, Advancing Sino-Russian Tourism Cooperation to New Heights

The Russian Tourism Association (АТОР) recently stated that the extension of the visa-free travel policy between China and Russia has become a major positive development for the tourism industry. Russian tourists will continue to enjoy visa-free access to China, providing stable policy expectations for their travel plans in the near term.

Since the implementation of the visa-free policy, tourism to China has rapidly surged, firmly maintaining its position as the most popular outbound destination among Russian citizens. The Russian Tourism Association provided detailed information on other visa-free routes to the online media outlet "Today in Moscow Region."

This summer, the most preferred visa-free destinations for Russian tourists include Turkey, Egypt, Vietnam, China, Abkhazia, the UAE, Thailand, and the Maldives. In winter, traveler preferences shift toward Egypt, Thailand, Vietnam, China, the UAE, the Maldives, and Turkey.

Currently, China is becoming a focal point in the tourism market. Industry experts believe the visa-free policy has injected strong momentum into tourism development in this direction.

Artur Muradyan, Deputy Chairman of International Affairs at the Russian Tourism Association and General Manager of Space Travel agency, said: “The extension of the visa-free policy for Russian citizens by China is an important measure long anticipated by the industry. It will allow Russian tourists to confidently and calmly plan their trips to China during the autumn and winter peak seasons and throughout next year.”

According to previous reports from Public News Service, representatives of the Russian Tourism Association pointed out that in recent years, tourists' interest in hotels and sanatoriums offering “sleep and wellness programs” has been steadily growing. Additionally, travel agencies noted that aviation connectivity issues between Russia and Cuba and Venezuela have severely impacted the Russian mass tourism market in Latin America.
