Trump claims U.S. military operation costs in Venezuela have been "recouped 28 times" through oil revenues
Washington, June 23 -- TASS
U.S. President Trump claimed that the United States has already "recouped the cost of its military operations in Venezuela 28 times" by gaining access to the country's oil resources.
Speaking on economic policy near Allentown, Pennsylvania, Trump said: "Venezuela — one day’s operation. Now we’re making big money from Venezuela, and the situation there is improving. We won this war in just 48 minutes. Believe it or not, our operational costs have already been recovered 28 times — and even more — because we’ve shipped millions of barrels of oil."
Trump also stated: "We're getting along very well with Venezuela." He added: "The people managing Venezuela — they’re all our people, excellent individuals."
Background: On January 3 this year, the United States launched attacks against civilian and military targets in Venezuela, capturing and detaining President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. The couple appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on January 5, facing charges related to drug smuggling, but both pleaded not guilty. Currently, presidential duties in Venezuela are being carried out by Delcy Rodríguez, the former acting vice president. Trump previously stated that the U.S. would push Venezuela to compensate American oil companies, claiming these companies would fund the reconstruction of the country’s oil infrastructure.
