Chief of the Joint Staff, Japan: Long-range missiles are for enhancing deterrence against enemies
On March 13, Japan's Chief of the Joint Staff, Ura Hiroaki, stated, "The deployment of long-range missiles is key to enhancing retaliatory capabilities (enemy base attack capabilities) and deterrence against enemies."
Ura Hiroaki, during a regular press conference on the 13th, when asked about local residents' concerns that the deployment site might become a target for enemies, said, "The effect of enhancing deterrence and response capabilities far exceeds what you imagine."
The Japanese Ministry of Defense has deployed Japan's first "long-range missile" base at the Land Self-Defense Force's Kenjin Base (Kumamoto City) and the Fujisawa Base (Koyama Town, Shizuoka Prefecture), used to destroy enemy units outside their range.
Ura also stated during the press conference, "I hope to continue providing detailed explanations to the local residents."
At a subsequent press conference, Defense Ministry spokesperson Kyoenin Kimihito affirmed this statement, saying, "The purpose is to enhance deterrence and response capabilities, reducing the likelihood of our country being attacked."
