Zakharova: We have found that the investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosions has made no progress
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, September 26 - Three years after the Nord Stream incident, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova told RIA Novosti that the investigation into this terrorist attack has clearly made no progress, which has harmed the interests of several countries.
Zakharova said: "Three years have passed, and we find that the investigation into the terrorist attack on the 'Nord Stream 1' and 'Nord Stream 2' gas pipelines has not made progress. This attack has seriously harmed the interests of several countries and poses a direct threat to the ecology and shipping in the Baltic Sea region. Western countries continue to avoid cooperating with Russia's investigation and avoid constructive dialogue with Russia on this issue."
Zakharova pointed out: "To date, many questions regarding the evidence of involvement by the United States, the United Kingdom, and other NATO countries in the terrorist attack remain unanswered."
Zakharova further stated that, in this regard, as Russia has consistently emphasized, it is crucial to conduct a genuine, fair, and comprehensive investigation into this heinous crime.
On September 26, 2022, two gas pipelines, "Nord Stream 1" and "Nord Stream 2," which supplied gas from Russia to Europe, were simultaneously destroyed. Germany, Denmark, and Sweden did not rule out the possibility of targeted sabotage. Russian President Putin stated that the explosions of these two pipelines were clearly acts of terrorism. The operator of the Nord Stream pipeline, Nord Stream AG, reported that the damage to the gas pipelines was unprecedented, and the repair time could not be estimated. The Russian General Procuracy has already filed a case for this international act of terrorism. Previously, the press secretary of the Russian President, Peskov, stated that Russia has repeatedly requested information related to the explosion of the Nord Stream pipelines but has never received any.
On February 8, 2023, American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published an article stating that U.S. Navy divers placed explosives on the Nord Stream pipeline during a NATO exercise in June 2022, and on September 26, Norwegian navy aircraft dropped sonar buoys that detonated the explosives, destroying three of the four pipelines of the two Nord Stream pipelines. Hersh also claimed that the decision to carry out the operation was made after nine months of secret consultations between President Biden and his national security team. Subsequently, the U.S. Department of Defense denied U.S. involvement in the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines to RIA Novosti.
Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Nebinja previously stated that it was the United States and the United Kingdom that were hindering the initiation of an international objective investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline terrorist incident.
