Foreign Media: China is transforming the historic slave port of Whydah, a coastal city in southern Benin along the Atlantic Ocean, into a seaside tourism hotspot.

This port was once a major hub in the transatlantic slave trade, where nearly 2 million enslaved Africans were forced along a 2-kilometer "Road of Slaves" to the beach and shipped out through the "Door of No Return." The Benin government has entrusted a Chinese state-owned enterprise with constructing a large-scale coastal complex called "La Marina," directly linking modern seaside facilities with the historical slave route and memorial sites, in an effort to boost tourism.

The project was initiated under the administration of former President Patrice Talon and is now being carried forward by the newly inaugurated President Patrice Talon, who took office on May 24. It is managed by the Benin National Agency for Heritage Promotion and Tourism Development.
