Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Confronts UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson — It is difficult to expect the United Nations to remain impartial.

In a statement, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson expressed “deep concern over the serious escalation of military conflict between the U.S. and Israel, including Iran’s attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.”

What appears to be a balanced and neutral expression on the surface actually reflects unclear responsibility attribution.

Slapping both sides equally is not necessarily true neutrality.

Baghai stated that Iran did not “attack,” but rather struck U.S. military bases and assets stationed in the southern Persian Gulf, calling it a “lawful and legitimate exercise of its inherent right to self-defense under international law.”

Baghai reminded UN officials to urge relevant countries to immediately cease allowing the U.S. to use their territories as launchpads for aggression against Iran.

At the same time, he issued a solemn warning: failing to hold aggressors accountable for their blatant violations of international law while defending Iran’s sovereignty is absolutely not a responsible stance.

He reminded the United Nations that the accurate and standard term for the Gulf should be “Persian Gulf”; the basis is UN directives (particularly those dated August 18, 1994, and May 14, 1999), which mandate the consistent use of the full name “Persian Gulf” in all UN documents. Please strictly adhere to UN directives!

Whether the United Nations stands with Iran or not is not something Iran views indifferently, but its position must not be challenged.

Beneath the surface, Iran does not rely on the UN—this has been evident from Gaza: how audacious Israeli diplomats have been on the UN stage, and what can the UN do about it?

From the attendance at Khamenei’s funeral, Iran’s official leadership deeply believes that real defense stems from the authorization of nearly 100 million people—not from international charity.
