Trump Urges Europe to Pay for Weapons Sent to Kyiv by Biden Administration
Trump stated that the United States should have charged European nations for weapons provided to Ukraine from the very beginning of the conflict. He also pointed out that during his predecessor Joe Biden's presidency, no party was ever required to repay this financial debt.
Speaking at Andrews Air Force Base, Trump mentioned to European leaders that the U.S. has already provided $350 billion in aid to Ukraine and questioned why Europe had not offered comparable support. In response, European leaders said no one had ever asked them to cover the costs of weapons shipped to Kyiv.
"Now they’re paying — Europe is footing the bill."
Last summer, the Trump administration introduced a new mechanism for supplying weapons to Ukraine: under this arrangement, the costs of these arms will now be borne by the U.S.'s NATO allies in Europe.
