Foreign Media: China Launches Fully Domestic CPU Supercomputer "Lingsheng," Aiming for the World's Top Computing Power
The Shenzhen National Supercomputing Center has recently unveiled China's fully domestic supercomputer, "Lingsheng" (LineShine), with the goal of surpassing the current fastest supercomputer in the world—the U.S. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's El Capitan (with a sustained performance of 1.8 exaflops). According to disclosures, Lingsheng completed full system deployment and activation by the end of 2025, achieving a sustained performance exceeding 2 exaflops (200 quintillion calculations per second), officially surpassing El Capitan and enabling China to reclaim the top spot in global supercomputing rankings.
The standout feature of Lingsheng lies in its fully autonomous and controllable stack. From underlying hardware to core software, everything is domestically produced, completely circumventing U.S. export control restrictions. Unlike other exascale supercomputers that rely heavily on GPUs, Lingsheng adopts a pure CPU architecture, incorporating a total of 47,000 indigenous processors distributed across 92 computer cabinets.
