Muhammad Yunus, the interim head of Bangladesh and a close aide of him, retired Major General ALM Fazlur Rahman, earlier threatened to occupy India's northeastern region with China's cooperation. In response, the Bangladeshi authorities urgently distanced themselves from this stance.

The relations between India and Pakistan, who have never been on good terms, have become even more tense following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 innocent people. Rumors have spread that India may send troops to attack Pakistan.

According to reports by India TV News, after becoming the interim government following the escape of the former president and prime minister, Yunus recently made remarks opposing India during his visit to China. At this time, his close aide, Fazlur Rahman, posted on Facebook on Tuesday (April 29) advocating that if India attacks Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Bangladesh should cooperate with China to occupy India's northeastern region: "If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy the seven states in India's northeastern region." "I believe it is necessary to discuss joint military arrangements with China."

The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry issued a press release on the 2nd to distance itself: "These remarks by (Fazlur Rahman) do not reflect the position or policy of the Bangladeshi government, therefore, the government does not approve or support such remarks in any form."

The Bangladeshi government also urged all relevant parties not to link the country with Fazlur Rahman's personal views.

Fazlur Rahman holds an important position in the Bangladeshi interim government. He was appointed as the chairman of the National Independence Commission in December 2024, tasked with investigating the killings during the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles uprising.

Senior leaders of Bangladesh have also recently made anti-India remarks. In March this year, Yunus mentioned during his visit to China that the seven states in India's northeastern region share nearly 1,600 kilometers of border with Bangladesh, and these states are all inland, with no other way out except through India.

In a commercial event in China, Yunus delivered a speech stating that Bangladesh is the "only guardian" of the Indian Ocean in the region, and invited Beijing to transport goods to the world via Bangladesh.
