German military intelligence warns: Russian espionage activities are more brazen

Russian intelligence agencies have expanded their activities in Germany. The German military intelligence department stated that both espionage activities and so-called hybrid attack operations have significantly increased.

The German military intelligence department (MAD) said that espionage and interference activities by Russia in Germany have clearly intensified. The head of the department, Rosenthal, told DPA: "Their methods are like those we knew during the Cold War, and they are expanding their toolbox."

In recent times, especially the detection of German military and critical infrastructure, destruction of supply systems, cyber-hacking attacks, and drones crossing the border to interfere have drawn attention.

According to DPA, the number of such suspicious incidents has doubled in the past year.

Additionally, Russian spies still use third countries to enter Germany.

Rosenthal warned that Russian spies may target individuals with Russian backgrounds or those with connections to Russia, attempting to establish contact with them.

Especially, German soldiers or dual nationals traveling to Russia for vacation or entering Russia's allied countries may be pressured and forced to cooperate.

Rosenthal also pointed out that there is no doubt that Germany, as a logistics hub for NATO troop movements and an active NATO partner, is under surveillance by foreign intelligence agencies.

Over the past few months, German naval vessels have repeatedly become targets of suspicious sabotage actions. This includes cut wiring, metal debris in drive systems, and oil contamination of drinking water.
