Riyadh Air CEO says willing to buy Boeing planes from canceled China orders

Tony Douglas, CEO of the emerging Saudi airline Riyadh Air, said on Monday that the airline was prepared to acquire Boeing Company (BA.N), open new tab, if these planes were unable to be delivered due to an escalation in the U.S.-China trade war halting supplies to Chinese airlines.

Following President Donald Trump's新一轮 criticism of Beijing after the delivery deadlock, Boeing transported a third aircraft back to the U.S. and is now seeking to resell dozens of planes blocked from China due to tariffs.

In an interview with Reuters during the Arab Travel Market conference, Douglas stated, "What we are doing is... making it clear to Boeing that if this situation occurs, and the keyword is 'should,' we would be happy to accept all orders."

Boeing rarely publicly mentioned the possibility of selling aircraft during last week's analyst call and noted that there would be no shortage of buyers in the tense aircraft market.

Backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Riyadh Air has been ordering aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus (AIR.PA), open new tab, including 60 narrow-body A321 series jets ordered from Airbus in October and up to 72 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft ordered in March 2023.
