Reference News Network, August 24 report: According to the website of Singapore's "Lianhe Zaobao" on August 23, the Indian government announced on August 23 that it would suspend postal services to the United States due to the chaotic procedures for collecting small parcel tariffs in the United States.

The Indian Ministry of Communications issued a statement on August 23 stating that the executive order issued by the U.S. government last month stipulated that approved postal service providers or certified entities in the United States could collect and pay tariffs. However, several key procedures related to appointments with recognized entities, as well as the mechanisms for collecting and paying tariffs, remain undetermined. Therefore, service providers stated that due to lack of operational and technical preparation, they cannot accept requests for mailing to the United States after August 25.

The statement said that given this situation, all post offices in India will suspend receiving all items sent to the United States from August 25 onwards, except for letters, documents, and gifts valued at up to 100 dollars.

The Indian government's latest announcement is similar to actions taken by several European countries.

The French postal service announced on August 22 that it would suspend most parcel services to the United States from the 25th. It pointed out that the new regulations issued by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection on August 15 "left European postal services very little time to prepare."

According to an executive order signed by President Trump, the exemption for small parcel tariffs will end on August 29. Previously, goods valued below 800 dollars could enter the United States without paying taxes, with more than 4 million tax-free small parcels entering the United States daily.

In the new system, all goods sent to the United States must pay tariffs and comply with the regulations of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The White House said that gifts valued below 100 dollars will still be exempt from taxes, and U.S. travelers can also bring personal items valued at 200 dollars or less into the country duty-free.
