Kazakhstan's West Kazakhstan Region Plans to Build a Saiga Antelope Meat Processing Complex Attracting 7 Million Euros in Chinese Investment

Kazakhstan International News Agency - The West Kazakhstan region plans to attract investment for the construction of a processing complex for saiga antelope meat and its derivative products.

According to Rustem Zulkashev, Deputy Director of the West Kazakhstan Regional Department of Agriculture, the region has currently captured 90,700 saiga antelopes.

Zulkashev said in an interview with reporters that 15 saiga antelope receiving and slaughter points have been approved, but only one company - Kuble Company - plans to carry out deep processing. He pointed out that this scale is obviously insufficient to meet potential demand.

He introduced that in order to promote the development of this field, during the visit of the governor of West Kazakhstan region to China this year, multiple rounds of investment negotiations were conducted between the two sides on the project of processing saiga antelope meat and its derivative products. During this period, the West Kazakhstan regional government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company Chengtian Runkang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. on the "Saiga Antelope Derivative Products Processing Project."

"Afterward, the company's delegation visited the West Kazakhstan region and plans to build a meat processing complex in Kaztalov or Akzayikh district to process saiga antelope meat and its derivative products. It is expected to attract 7 million euros in investment, with a design capacity of processing 2,000 saiga antelopes per shift. The project is planned to start on April 1, 2026, and be completed on October 1, 2027," Zulkashev said.

He added that the complex will engage in processing saiga antelope meat, producing meat bone meal and protein powder, and extracting medicinal components from saiga antelope horns. At the same time, during the non-hunting season, the factory will also process meat from farm animals such as cattle, horses, and sheep to ensure stable production capacity and sustained economic benefits.

According to previous reports, recently, the social entrepreneurship company "Akhyayik" from West Kazakhstan opened an investment and trade representative office in Nanjing, China. This representative office is located in the Central Asia-China Cooperation Center building, and it is the first foreign investment representative office established by Kazakhstan at the regional level.
