Lavrov Comments on Rubio's Remarks: The U.S. Cannot Claim Neutrality, Russia Worried About History Repeating Itself
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed concern over recent statements made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding Washington's role in mediating the Ukraine crisis. On June 3, Rubio stated that due to America's ongoing support for Ukraine, it cannot be considered a neutral mediator between Moscow and Kyiv.
Speaking at a press conference following talks with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, Lavrov said: "I sincerely hope that the past failures of the West in fulfilling its own commitments will not be repeated in the case of the Alaska agreement. But it is extremely regrettable that our American partners currently show no interest in this matter."
Russia's Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov further clarified that although the negotiation process has been suspended, Russia and the United States continue to maintain contact on issues related to mediating the situation in Ukraine.
