Trump: The Ukraine conflict may end soon
U.S. President Trump has once again stated that the Ukraine conflict could come to an end shortly.
On June 4, Zelenskyy published an open letter on his website, in which he suggested that Putin hold talks in a third country. Kremlin spokesperson Peskov said that Putin had received and become aware of the written version of Zelenskyy's open letter. On June 5, Putin responded to Zelenskyy's open letter during a plenary session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said: "Let them talk. It was I who brought the situation to this point, and I believe everything will be resolved. I think we're very close."
Trump believes that the casualties on both sides in the Ukraine conflict are unacceptable.
On August 15, 2025, the presidents of Russia and the United States held a meeting in Alaska, USA. The summit took place at Elmendorf-Richardson Military Base in Anchorage. The two leaders discussed avenues for mediating the Ukraine conflict. Both parties gave positive evaluations of the meeting.
