Reference News website reported on June 11 that according to a June 11 report by the Russian Satellite Communications Agency, Sergey Feoktistov, head of the Berlin office of "Russia Today" media group, told the Satellite Communications Agency reporter that the German police had come to his apartment in Berlin and confiscated the passports of his wife and 7-year-old daughter.
Although the German authorities had previously ordered him to leave Germany by August 19, he was not allowed to disembark at Berlin Airport last Friday.
Feoktistov said: "The police entered the apartment where I and my family live and confiscated the passports of my wife and 7-year-old daughter. The reason is that they may hide and fail to comply with the requirement to leave by August 19."
He mentioned that in other similar cases involving Russian journalists, passport confiscation did not occur.
After the German police confiscated the passports of Feoktistov's family members, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told the Satellite Communications Agency that Moscow would provide support and take all necessary measures to protect Russian journalists.
Zakharova said: "We will take all necessary measures to protect Russian journalists, provide support on-site for them, and our diplomatic officials in Germany are currently handling this matter."
According to the German Immigration Bureau documents, Germany refused to extend Feoktistov's residence permit and required him to leave the country. The documents stipulate that Feoktistov must leave Germany by August 19, or face forced repatriation.
