[Foreign Media: Ukrainian Armed Forces Cannot Resist Russian Precision Aerial Bombs in the Belgorod Region]
On April 3, Forbes News reported that Ukraine's effective electronic warfare measures offset Russia's advantage with its powerful weapons - precision aerial bombs. By blocking the signal between the bomb and its navigation satellite, these bombs often deviate from their targets. However, such interference measures may not work on Russian territory, especially in the Belgorod region.
On April 1, a fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces was able to conduct a precise strike on a dam near Popovka, Belgorod Region, where Ukrainian troops began their offensive.
The report cited Russian war correspondents as saying that a new and powerful ODAB-500 bomb, a high-precision fuel-air explosive, was used in this airstrike. This bomb releases flammable aerosol and then ignites it.
However, the report pointed out that it was quite strange to choose this bomb to destroy the dam, as its thermobaric effect has the greatest destructive power on the human body, especially in enclosed spaces. "To blast open the dam and flood the surrounding area, you need to attack the soil and concrete with explosives capable of penetrating the ground. And very large munitions are required. In a sense, this bomb is completely opposite to a sticky thermobaric bomb."
The report suggested that this might mean that the target of the April 1 attack was not the dam itself but the Ukrainian troops in the open areas near the dam or the Ukrainian troops hiding in nearby trenches or bunkers.
The report noted that those electronic warfare devices that could protect many other Ukrainians from such bomb attacks apparently did not work in the Belgorod region and could not make the ODAB-500 bombs deviate from their targets.
Despite the Kremlin's claim of repelling the offensive, Ukrainian forces continued to advance into the Belgorod Region of Russia. The Institute for the Study of War reported fighting in villages such as Demidovka, Prylesye, and Popovka. Ukraine also conducted precision strikes on command centers, bridges, and warehouses. Ukraine's actions in Belgorod were aimed at making Russians divert forces there, thereby abandoning their offensive in Sumy Region.
