April 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a strategic missile-carrying aircraft Tu-22M3 crashed in the Irkutsk region. All four crew members on board ejected and escaped, but one pilot died.

The Tu-22M3 crashed in an unpopulated area without causing any damage to the ground. The preliminary cause of the accident was technical failure.

On August 15, 2024, another Tu-22M3 also crashed in the Irkutsk region. The cause was again technical failure.
