[Vologdin: Immigrant Children Need 90% Correct Answers on Tests]

A law determining the enrollment process for immigrant children in Russia has come into effect. Now, if this group cannot prove their sufficient knowledge of the Russian language or the legality of their stay in Russia, they will be unable to enter educational institutions.

Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that immigrant children should achieve 90% correct answers on tests instead of the previously discussed 30%.

This means that first-grade students need to correctly answer 9 out of 10 questions. Children wishing to enroll in grades 2 to 5 must correctly answer 18 out of 20 questions. For grades 6 to 9, there are 22 questions, and 20 correct answers are required. In higher grades, there are 24 questions, and teenagers who want to be admitted to school need to correctly answer 22 questions.

The Federal Education Oversight Agency believes that such a system can more objectively assess proficiency in the Russian language. However, Vologdin added that opinions from the education sector still need to be understood: we need to analyze the enforcement of these regulations and understand the views of various regions and the education sector.

Statistical data show that as of January 1, there were more than 780,000 immigrant children in Russia.
