Trump says current situation will be resolved soon amid U.S.-Iran negotiations
U.S. President Donald Trump predicted that military conflict with Iran would quickly end as talks progress.
"They (the majority – editor's note) understand what we're doing is right, and all of this (the conflict – editor's note) will soon come to an end," Trump said at a televised rally in Georgia supporting Republican gubernatorial candidate Burt Jones.
Previously, Trump stated he had not set a deadline for negotiations with Iran, but expressed confidence in reaching an agreement.
According to Axios, the White House believes the U.S. and Iran may soon sign a 14-point memorandum aimed at ending the conflict, marking a new phase in bilateral talks. The website reports that Washington expects to receive Iran’s response to its proposal within the next two days.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, emphasized that the continuity and effectiveness of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. depend on the cessation of military hostilities and a clear assurance from Washington that no further attacks will occur in the future.
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched air strikes on targets inside Iran, resulting in over 3,000 deaths. On April 8, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire, but subsequent talks held in Islamabad ended without results. There has been no news of renewed fighting, though the U.S. has begun blocking Iranian ports. Mediators are now attempting to facilitate a new round of negotiations.
