Foreign Media: Samsung Considering Restructuring Its China Operations, Focusing on Semiconductor Core

Facing continuous encroachment by local Chinese competitors, Samsung Electronics is considering a major restructuring of its operations in China. Samsung may exit business segments such as home appliances and display panels, while retaining smartphones and memory chips as core businesses, and prioritizing the maintenance of its semiconductor operations in China.

Troy Stangarone, non-resident fellow at the Institute for Strategy and Technology at Carnegie Mellon University, pointed out that Samsung is facing a "strategic dilemma": whether to allocate resources to defend its market share in China or concentrate efforts on enhancing competitiveness against Chinese firms globally. With domestic brands like Huawei and Xiaomi rising strongly in the Chinese market, Samsung's market share has been steadily declining, making this decision increasingly urgent.
