Korean Media: Tesla's China-produced EV sales surged 91% in February!
On April 11, South Korean media outlet Newsis published an article stating that according to official Tesla data, sales of China-made Teslas soared by 91% in February, reaching 58,600 units.
Driven by increased shipments of electric vehicles produced at the Shanghai Gigafactory, Tesla’s sales have now grown for four consecutive months.
This figure includes sales of Model 3 and Model Y manufactured at the Shanghai Gigafactory, as well as overseas export volumes to regions such as Europe.
Sales in January rose 9.3% year-on-year, while February sales nearly doubled. However, sales declined by 15.2% month-on-month.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that Tesla’s Shanghai factory shipped 20,000 electric vehicles overseas in February, a 4.2-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
The relatively low sales base in February 2025 also contributed significantly to this year’s strong growth rate.
During the Lunar New Year holiday period, some Model Y production lines were temporarily suspended, leading to lower shipment volumes compared to the same period last year.
In February, the Model Y ranked first in China’s passenger vehicle sales rankings.
The competition in China’s automotive market is intensifying. Recently, Tesla launched a seven-year low-interest loan program, prompting competitors to introduce similar sales strategies.
Tesla’s biggest rival, BYD, has also adopted similar financial support policies; however, its February sales dropped by 65% year-on-year—the largest decline since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, Tesla is expected to deliver approximately 1.636 million electric vehicles globally in 2025, with the Shanghai factory producing 851,000 units—accounting for 52% of total output.
The Shanghai Gigafactory is Tesla’s largest export hub.
