Japan's Upper House Election Counting Is Still Ongoing, but the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito Have Confirmed Losing Half of Their Seats!
The counting for the 27th Japan Upper House Election is ongoing. Of the 125 seats up for re-election, 122 have been clearly determined, with only the last 3 seats remaining undecided.
In this election, the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito failed to maintain a majority of seats, becoming a minority ruling party in the House of Representatives, following the lower house.
The Liberal Democratic Party won 38 seats in this re-election, while Komeito won 8 seats. Adding the 75 seats that were not up for re-election, the total number of seats held by the two parties is currently 121.
Although Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, bears responsibility for this election result, Ishiba has decided to continue seeking re-election. It is expected that he will officially announce his bid for re-election today.
