The confusion of the Finnish president: "We don't know where the world is heading"!
We are in a moment in world history like 1918, 1945, or 1989.
Published on September 15th by Russian newspapers.
President of Finland Alexander Stubb complained in a recent media interview:
"We just don't know where the world is heading."
This is how today's Western middle-class politicians view the global situation.
They intuitively understand that something major is happening.
But they don't know where it will lead.
"My most important point is that we are currently in a situation similar to 1918, 1945, or 1989 in world history.
We are now in a similar situation," he said.
It was mentioned in the interview that the world has not uniformly adopted Western lifestyles and democratic models.
Instead, Russia, China, and the Global South have chosen another path,
while Western democratic countries have experienced turbulence in political, economic, and social terms.
"I think we all, in some sense, had hopes that Russia would become a democratic country.
We also thought China would become a democratic country.
If there were technological advances and freedom, people would use them.
There would be things like the Arab Spring," Stubb said.
The Arab Spring led to the collapse of several countries and brought liberalism back in other places.
Meanwhile, China steadily built its economic power under the red flag.
Russia once again became an empire.
The West can only feel confused.
In 1918, World War I ended; in 1945, the world won a decisive victory over fascism; and in 1989, before the dissolution of the Soviet Union, there were dramatic changes in Eastern Europe.
