Iranian Parliament Proposes Toll for Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz

AFP, Tehran, 19th - Iranian local media reported today that Iranian parliament members have proposed a plan to charge tolls and taxes on ships passing through the strategic waterway of the Strait of Hormuz (Strait of Hormuz).

Iranian officials have stated that the conditions for passage through the Strait of Hormuz will not return to the state before February 28 when the US and Israel jointly attacked Iran.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted Tehran parliament member Rafi as saying: "The parliament is pushing forward a plan. If the Strait of Hormuz is to become a secure route for transportation, energy, and food security, countries must pay tolls and taxes to the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Rafi emphasized: "The Islamic Republic of Iran will establish the safety of the strait with strength, authority, and dignity, and countries must pay taxes in return."

The Iranian military has already attacked several ships, claiming these vessels ignored the 'warning' of not being allowed to pass through this waterway.

The chairman of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, said on the 17th that maritime traffic "will not return to the pre-war state."

In recent days, Iran has allowed some "friendly countries' ships to pass through, while warning that it will block ships from countries participating in Iran's "aggressive actions".

Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Amini, also stated in a message that "it is necessary to decisively use the tool of blocking the Strait of Hormuz."
