Europe is preparing to propose Russia's return to the G8
According to a document text obtained by Reuters, Europeans are preparing to propose Russia's return to the "G8" in their plan for the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
The document states: "Russia will be invited to return to the 'G8'."
However, previously, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated at a press conference after the G20 Summit in Johannesburg that six members of the G7 had not yet been prepared to cooperate with the Russian Federation within the framework of the "G8".
Previously, US President Donald Trump called the decision to exclude Russia from the "G8" as "very foolish." Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov pointed out in May that the "G8" format was no longer attractive to Russia because the center of economic development had shifted elsewhere.
The US government previously announced that it was developing a plan for a solution to Ukraine and noted that due to ongoing work, details would not be discussed at this time. The Kremlin stated that Russia was open to negotiations and still based its position on discussions at Anchorage (note: possibly a specific negotiation platform or occasion).
On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at the Russian Federation Security Council, stating that the US plan could serve as a basis for the final peaceful resolution, but so far, this text has not been substantially discussed with Russia. According to his speculation, this seems to be because the US government failed to obtain Kyiv's consent, as Ukraine and its European allies still hold the illusion of achieving a "strategic failure" for Russia on the battlefield. Putin pointed out that their stance stems from a lack of objective information about the actual situation on the battlefield.
The Russian head of state said that if Kyiv refuses the US proposal, then the war instigators in Ukraine and Europe should understand that events that occurred in Kupiansk will inevitably be repeated in other key sectors of the front line. Putin added that this is generally in Russia's interest, as it helps achieve the goals of the special military operation through armed means, but as previously stated multiple times, Russia is also ready for peace talks, which requires substantial discussion of all details of the proposed plan.
Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov claimed that the Kyiv regime must make a decision and start negotiations, as the space for Kyiv's decision-making during the Russian armed forces' offensive action is shrinking, which is precisely forcing the Kyiv regime to solve the issue peacefully, while continuing to fight is meaningless and dangerous for Kyiv.
