African Continent's Key Minerals: Australian Cobre Ltd Launches New Drilling Operations at Botswana Ngami Copper Project

¬ Cobre Ltd has initiated new diamond drilling in the Cosmos target area of its Botswana Ngami copper project to assess high-grade mineralization potential

¬ The project has confirmed 11.5 million tons of copper resources with a grade of 0.52%, equivalent to 60,300 tons of metal content

¬ Previously, BHP had shown interest in Cobre's Kitlanya project in Botswana, and this new exploration is taking place against that backdrop

Australian exploration company Cobre Ltd stated on Thursday, October 23, in a statement that it has started new drilling operations at the Ngami copper project (NCP) in Botswana. The project focuses on the Cosmos target, aiming to enhance the company's understanding of the copper potential of the project.

Ngami currently has 11.5 million tons of copper resources with a grade of 0.52%, containing approximately 60,300 tons of copper based solely on the Comet deposit discovered earlier this year. According to Cobre, the Cosmos deposit is only 8 kilometers away from the Comet deposit and has shown anomalous copper and silver mineralization.

Cobre plans to drill two diamond holes in Cosmos to assess the level and grade of mineralization. The company said the results of this exploration will guide further exploration work within the Ngami license area.

Cobre CEO Adam Wooldridge said, "We are excited to start drilling. Cosmos is an exciting target that may have high-grade copper and silver mineralization suitable for conventional mining, while also increasing our in-situ copper recovery resources in NCP."

Cobre plans to conduct exploration in areas near the existing Comet deposit to evaluate whether the Cosmos resource company can help develop the Ngami mine. The company said that if higher-grade ore layers are confirmed, it would significantly improve the project's economic viability. However, the final results will depend on the outcomes of this exploration activity.

Botswana has become an emerging center for copper exploration in southern Africa, benefiting from the growing global demand for copper used in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and power infrastructure.

Ngami is one of several copper projects operated by Cobre in Botswana. The company also controls the Kitlanya East and West projects, which attracted the interest of mining giant BHP earlier this year.
