Trump: Military aid to Ukraine from NATO will reach "billions of dollars"
US President Trump said on the 14th that future military assistance to Kyiv will include Patriot missile systems, not just missiles.
Trump said last week that Washington, as a NATO member, will pay for American weapons supplied by NATO to Ukraine.
Trump said during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: "This is the Patriot missile system. The whole set. We will soon receive several sets, within a few days. By the way, several countries that have Patriot systems are replacing them."
He also said: "We have a country that is ready to provide 17 Patriot systems, and this country doesn't need these systems. So we are trying to reach an agreement to get all 17 systems or most of them into the war zone."
At the same time, Trump pointed out that the arms supply agreement with Europe is suspected to be an "opportunity" for Ukraine to conclude a peace agreement.
Trump said on July 14 that military aid delivered to Ukraine through NATO will reach "billions of dollars".
Last week, Trump announced that NATO would pay for American weapons that would then be transferred to Ukraine by NATO. Trump also pointed out that the relevant agreements with NATO were reached at last month's NATO summit, according to which the US "supplies weapons to NATO, and NATO will repay the full cost of these weapons."
Trump said during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Rutte: "The goal of this large transaction, including maintenance, is to purchase military equipment worth billions of dollars from the US, hand it over to NATO, and distribute it quickly."
Trump also said he was unsure about the necessity of the sanctions Russia bill currently being reviewed by the US Senate.
Trump said during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: "I'm not sure if we really need it, but they (US lawmakers) are doing it, which is certainly good."
