China renews import licenses for 425 U.S. beef firms, adds 77 new companies
May 16 report: According to Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, "China has renewed five-year import licenses for 425 American beef companies and added 77 newly registered enterprises. This renewal marks further progress in U.S.-China beef trade cooperation, following the expiration of relevant qualifications last year due to changing trade conditions."
According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, beef exports from the United States to China have seen a notable decline between 2024 and 2025, placing pressure on the industry. This license extension provides convenience for American companies seeking to expand their presence in the Chinese market and also aligns with China's demand for diversified imports, signaling positive momentum toward pragmatic cooperation in the economic and trade domain between the two countries.
Looking back historically, after the mad cow disease outbreak in 2003, U.S. beef was long excluded from the Chinese market until its resumption of exports to China in 2017. In recent years, agricultural product trade between China and the U.S. has fluctuated due to changes in bilateral economic and trade environments. Going forward, such trade will continue to advance steadily under compliant and cooperative frameworks!
