According to reports by Agence France-Presse and Bloomberg, Chinese Ambassador to Colombia, Jingyang Zhu, stated at a press conference that China has no intention of replacing the United States' position in Latin America. He said, "China comes to provide cooperation, not to replace anyone, nor to seek to seize anyone's position."
However, Zhu Jingyang also indicated that if the United States follows through on its threat to cut off financial support for Colombia and all of Latin America, China may intervene to finance infrastructure for these countries.
