April 15th, market rumors spread that Xiaomi recently announced internally the establishment of a chip platform department under the product department organizational structure. Qin Muyun was appointed as the head of the chip platform department and reports to Li Jun, the general manager of the product department.
According to information, Qin Muyun previously worked at Qualcomm, serving as Senior Director of Product Marketing at Qualcomm, before joining Xiaomi.
However, on the same evening, Wang Hua, General Manager of Xiaomi Group's Public Relations Department, responded to the rumor about the establishment of the chip platform department in an article, stating that the chip platform department within Xiaomi Group's mobile phone product department has always existed, mainly responsible for collecting product chip platform selection assessments and in-depth customization, and that Qin Muyun has been with Xiaomi for a long time.

Recently, it was rumored that the Xiaomi 15S Pro will be the first to launch with Xiaomi's self-developed SoC chip. Previously, Lin Bin, co-founder and vice chairman of Xiaomi, also confirmed the existence of the new Xiaomi 15S Pro model in a Weibo post when replying to netizens. However, the specific specifications of this new model are still pending confirmation from Xiaomi's official channels.
Xiaomi's journey in self-developed chips began in October 2014, when Xiaomi established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Beijing Songguo Electronics, to embark on the path of mobile phone chip development. In February 2017, Xiaomi released its first self-developed SoC chip, Surge S1, using a 28nm process, which was integrated into the Xiaomi 5C smartphone, but market feedback was limited.
Later, rumors circulated about the failure of the Surge S2 prototype, indicating slow progress in system-level chip development. In 2021, Xiaomi launched its self-developed imaging chip, Surge C1, and charging management chip, Surge P1, seemingly shifting its strategy temporarily towards specialized chips. In 2022, Xiaomi introduced the Surge G1 battery management chip.
