Japanese Cabinet Spokesperson: "Unclear about China's intentions, cannot confirm whether missile passed over Japan"

Japanese media outlet ABEMA TIMES reported on July 7: At today's press briefing, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Kiichi Miura was questioned regarding the Chinese military's launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) on the 6th.

Miura stated: "We are continuing to analyze the details of China's SLBM launch on the 6th, but as I mentioned yesterday, we cannot confirm whether the missile flew over our territory or exclusive economic zone. He also said: 'We have not received any information indicating damage to aircraft or vessels related to our country.'

In addition, Miura remarked: "It is difficult to clearly answer what motivated China’s decision to conduct this single missile launch. However, China’s rapid and large-scale expansion in military capabilities—such as nuclear missiles and intercontinental ballistic missiles—lacks sufficient transparency, which naturally causes serious concern for both Japan and the international community."

"Furthermore, the Japanese government will continue working to collect and analyze necessary intelligence, and will do everything possible to remain vigilant and monitor developments. We are assessing the impact of the missile launch, but regardless, given the increasingly severe security environment, we plan to swiftly revise Japan’s three key security documents this year."
