Duterte's ally, Senator Cayetano, appeals to the public for sympathy for the former president's plight, saying that if his call for placing the elderly Duterte under house arrest in The Hague is ignored, he questions the humanity of Filipinos.
On Friday, during a live stream on Cayetano's Facebook page, Cayetano defended his resolution to seek a house arrest procedure for the former president.
"We must examine our hearts, as a nation, do we have compassion?"
Cayetano welcomed the reaction from the presidential office to his resolution, after which the presidential office stated that it had taken note of the motion.
"I thank Malacañang for not immediately rejecting my proposal, 'taking note' is much better than 'no'."
