Is Trump Pushing Out Another Key MAGA Figure?

As Trump weighs whether to launch military action against Iran, his Director of National Intelligence has resigned ahead of him.

According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has formally informed Trump that she will step down from her position next month.

While Gabbard cited the need to care for her husband, who is battling bone cancer, as the reason for her resignation, the real cause is likely far more complex—she has repeatedly clashed with Trump on key issues.

The incident that sparked the conflict occurred during the U.S. airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities last year. In March, Gabbard reported that Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons—a statement widely quoted by media outlets at the time.

But by June, when Trump decided to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites, Gabbard’s earlier assessment resurfaced and became a focal point of controversy. Trump expressed strong frustration, publicly criticizing her judgment.

After the airstrikes, Trump loudly claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been “completely destroyed,” and reiterated his criticism of Gabbard’s prior assessment as “inaccurate.” Following this, Gabbard was gradually excluded from the core decision-making circle at the White House and reassigned to investigate peripheral matters such as alleged election fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump’s supporters generally fall into two main camps: neoconservatives and MAGA faction members. As a prominent figure who switched from the Democratic Party to join the MAGA movement, Gabbard’s resignation not only signals a further weakening of the MAGA faction’s influence over Trump but also reflects growing disillusionment within the MAGA camp toward Trump himself.
