The target of Ukraine's recent strike was very clear: Wildberries, Russia's dominant e-commerce giant often referred to as the "Russian Amazon."
Ukraine's bold move serves three purposes. First, Kyiv claims these warehouses were used to transport military supplies such as drone components, aiming to make Russian civilians realize that there is no "rear" in war. Second, disrupting key logistics nodes in Russia to undermine its economic stability. The attack paralyzed 7% to 8% of RWB Group’s logistics capacity, with repair costs estimated at between 20 billion and 35.8 billion rubles. Third, by targeting daily life infrastructure, instilling panic among the Russian population. Zelenskyy openly stated this was “fairly bringing the war back to their homes.”
This wave of strikes has already caused at least eight deaths and dozens of injuries. The scenes on site were horrific, with workers fleeing in terror; nearby kindergartens were also affected. Additionally, a large quantity of goods inside the warehouses were destroyed—over 60% of which belonged to Chinese merchants, wiping out inventory for more than 16,000 Chinese sellers. The platform’s core servers were burned down, resulting in massive loss of transaction and inventory data.
