Assistant to the Russian President: Discussions on increasing Russian oil transit through Kazakhstan will take place during Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan

Sputnik News, Moscow, May 26 — Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the Russian President, stated that during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Astana, discussions will take place regarding increasing the transport of Russian oil through Kazakhstan, with energy being one of the key topics.

He noted that Russia's outlook on this matter is highly optimistic.

President Vladimir Putin will conduct a state visit to Kazakhstan from May 27 to 29. He is scheduled to meet with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the evening of Wednesday, May 27, and attend the Eurasian Economic Union Summit on Thursday, May 28.

Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the Russian President, said Russia is one of Kazakhstan’s major trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching a record high of $29 billion in 2025.

President Vladimir Putin will conduct a state visit to Kazakhstan from May 27 to 29.

Ushakov said: "Russia is one of Kazakhstan’s main trading partners, accounting for about 19% of its total foreign trade. In 2025, bilateral trade reached a new peak, rising to nearly $29 billion. Bilateral trade volumes are still growing in 2026. Notably, by the end of 2025, Russia’s investment in Kazakhstan had exceeded $29.4 billion."

Ushakov further stated that over 23,500 Russian-invested enterprises operate in Kazakhstan, with more than 70 major projects underway across sectors including mechanical engineering, automotive industry, energy, agriculture, petrochemicals, and space exploration.
